CrossOff Announces New Partnership With Hockey Hall Of Fame
Toronto, Canada -- CrossOff Incorporated (TSE:OFF) announced today the launch of a joint development project with The Hockey Hall of Fame. Signed memorabilia from the Hockey Hall of Fame's 'Legends Line' will be protected from potential forgery by the CrossOff Registry System .
In an effort to deter the sale of counterfeit sports collectibles and memorabilia, CrossOff has been working with leaders in the sports industry to design and develop the CrossOff database registry system. The system helps protect business, industry, commerce and consumers by making the sale of counterfeit and fraudulent goods considerably more difficult.
"The CrossOff Registry system provides a much-needed solution to a growing problem of fraud in the sports memorabilia industry", says Peter Jagla, Producer of New Media & e-Business for The Hockey Hall of Fame. "With the recent launch of our Legends Line e-store, it was important for us to implement anti-counterfeiting solutions that protect our brand and our customers against fraudulent activities." The Legends Line e-store is a vast collection of autographed sports merchandise provided by the game's greatest stars. Currently there are over 100 products representing 20 honored members including Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, Mike Bossy, Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne.
The process is simple. The Hockey Hall of Fame 'tags' autographed memorabilia and provides the information to the CrossOff Registry. CrossOff assigns a unique tracking number for each item and a 'password' (similar to a bank ATM card and a PIN) and uploads the records to the registry database. Consumers can look up their item and confirm authenticity at www.crossoff.com before purchasing. To register ownership, they simply enter the two numbers from their official certificate. Once the item is registered, the CrossOff system will display a detailed record of the authentic item and users can keep track of their collections using CrossOff software.
The new system combines the latest anti-counterfeiting technologies, a universally accessible and secure database registration system with a unique tracking process that verifies the authenticity of high value items. Customers of the Legends Line e-store, will be able to utilize the online registry, further ensuring authenticity of their purchase, and providing
them with lifetime proof for potential future trades or sales.
Roughly two out of three sports collectibles sold in North America are fake, and recent seizures by the FBI during undercover investigations have led authorities to believe the fraud industry is worth over $600 million a year. In an industry where fakes are as high as 70%, this online registry tracking system provides a tool for the consumer to ensure authenticity.
"We couldn't have asked for a better development partner", says Donnie Snow CEO of CrossOff Incorporated. "The Hockey Hall of Fame is an outstanding organization with enviable sports memorabilia that needs protection."
The partners anticipate signing a definitive agreement by the end of May 2001.
