Another Year, Another Mark

Progress Club Sports Celebrity Dinner

This past February, DNA Technologies enjoyed another great year at the The Progress Club Sports Celebrity Dinner, where we marked and protected more sports memorabilia than ever before!

We always enjoy doing these dinners – not only because we can meet some incredibly talented athletes, but because we are able to play a small part in supporting such a great cause.  The team at the Progress Club works very hard to put on night like no other in Halifax.

A bit about the dinner:

“Carrying on a 47 year tradition, the Sports Charity Dinner is held in Halifax each February.  In 1972, the inaugural event was planned as a way to raise funds in support of the King’s Meadow Home for mentally challenged adults in Windsor, N.S. and has grown to support all major beneficiaries of the Canadian Progress Club – Halifax, including Club Inclusion, Special Olympics and the IWK Foundation.  Over the years, the dinner has attracted close to 300 world class speakers from all genres of professional and amateur sport to assist with the generous fundraising efforts of the Canadian Progress Club – Halifax.”

The Progress Club Sports Celebrity Dinner has utilized DNA Technologies’ authentication system to protect the value of celebrity signed memorabilia, since 2001!  The memorabilia is auctioned off that night, and later in the year as part of the club’s fundraising efforts. We are honored to be part of such a great event and to demonstrate our anti-counterfeiting and brand protection solutions.

Our patented DNA-based tracking technology, uses DNA-laced ink to tag and protect valuable products, brands and intellectual property.  It was first used by the Hockey Hall of Fame, and has been deployed with great success by the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the NFL’s Super Bowl, Steiner Sports Marketing (NY Yankees Game Used Collectibles) and the National Hockey League.

The process is similar to that one used in the ‘big leagues’, and by our key licensee, PSA/ DNA Authentication Services –  the world’s leading third-party authentication service for autographs and authenticates signatures from the worlds of sports, history and entertainment. Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) has used our special DNA inks and signature pens for over 20 years to authenticate most notably – the bat used by Babe Ruth to hit the first home run in Yankee Stadium in 1923, Barry Bonds’ 600th career home run baseball, Mark McGwire’s 70th and Sammy Sosa’s 66th home run baseballs, Hank Aaron’s career 715th home run baseball and bat, and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson’s famous “Black Betsy” baseball bat.

Read more about the process of protecting the world of sports collectibles in our White Paper (it may be dated, but the process is timeless).

We cannot wait until next year!
